What was the brief
madeinmanc was asked to help promote Islam Awareness Week at Manchester Metropolitan University. IAW is designed to promote the true values and fundamental teachings of a faith which, in recent years has consistently been promoted through negative political and social stereotypes.
The campaign had to be bold and visually attractive reflecting the many positive attributes Islam brings to the communities that follow this faith, whilst retaining an essence of what the week was aiming to achieve: experience, education and awareness about a faith and people increasingly misunderstood.
What madeinmanc did
madeinmanc centred the theme of IAW 07 on the tagline
Question The Misconception
Two images that commonly represent muslim men and women are the beard and hijab and outside the muslim community they tend to be associated with negative political and social stereotypes. These recognisable symbols were used and designed to counter-act that perception. This was reinforced with the muslim greeting of
Asalamu A Laikum meaning Peace & Blessings
Postcards were created and distributed in and around Manchester and there has been a very positive reaction to them by the muslim and non muslim community, students and non-students.
madeinmanc would like to wish all those organising and attending IAW Asalamu A Laikum.
